# Managing documents

> Upload, view, and manage documents within a workflow.

The workflow detail page shows all documents that have been uploaded for processing.

## Uploading documents

You can upload documents in two ways:

* **Drag and drop:** drag documents directly onto the upload area
* **Click to browse:** click the upload area to open a file picker

Ingestly supports PDF, JPEG, PNG, TIFF, GIF, WebP, and CSV, plus Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OpenDocument, and Rich Text documents. The legacy binary formats `.doc`, `.xls`, and `.ppt` are not accepted. See [supported formats](/files/introduction#supported-formats) for the exact extensions.

Once uploaded, a run starts automatically if the workflow is active and its upload trigger has **Run automatically** turned on. With the setting off, the document is [held](/files/inbox#held-documents) instead: it waits under **Inbox** > **Workflows**, beneath this workflow, and you can also run it from this page.

## Document status

A document's status is the status of its latest run: once a workflow has run on the document, the badge shows that run's state and links to it. Before the first run, the badge shows where the upload stands.

| Status | Description |
| -------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Pending** | Upload initiated |
| **Uploaded** | Document received, waiting for processing |
| **Held** | Document received and [held](/files/inbox#held-documents) until you run it |
| **Processing** | Workflow is actively running |
| **Completed** | Processing finished successfully |
| **Failed** | Processing encountered an error. Documents that remain in **Processing** beyond the run timeout are automatically moved to **Failed** so they never stay stuck |
| **Review** | Waiting for human review |
| **Cancelled** | Run was cancelled before completing |

## Bulk actions

Select one or more rows in the documents list to reveal the action bar. Alongside **Export** and **Delete**, it offers **Run**, which starts a run for each selected document that is **Held**. A confirmation appears first, because a run may consume credits.

## Document detail

Click a document to view its details:

* Document name, format, and size
* Upload timestamp
* Status, linking to the latest run
* Document preview. PDFs and images preview as page images; documents read as text (office and CSV) preview as their converted text, with **Download original** to open the source file

The document's runs list shows every run for this document, each with a status badge and duration. Select any entry to open its run detail. In-flight runs (Running, Queued, Awaiting Sub-runs, or Review) show an inline **Cancel** button so you can stop them without leaving the page.

## Document actions

The document detail header groups all actions for the document:

* **Trigger Run:** start a new workflow run for the document. This action is disabled with a tooltip while a run is already in progress, and it shows a "This may consume credits" confirmation before the run starts.
* **View Latest Run:** jump to the most recent run for the document. This action is disabled when there are no runs yet.
* **Download:** download the original uploaded document.
* **Delete:** permanently remove the document and its associated data.
